So what do you do when all your current sessions are postponed and you’ve got nothing but time on your hands?
A new house/studio to renovate – check
Netflix – check
Books to read – check
Baking – check
But, I also spent the last week organizing & photographing (& then editing!) portraits for almost 50 families for #TheFrontStepsProject in my current neighbourhood of Parkallen, as well as in Lendrum, the neighbourhood I’m moving into once our renovation on the new house is complete. If this is the first you’re hearing of the project, it is basically a series of physically distanced photographs (shot using my 70-200 lens from the sidewalk) of families on their front porches. There was no charge to participate, only a request for donations to the EdmontonFoodBank or a charity of their choice. While this project has been debated a bit on social media, I am so glad that I decided to do it. It brought SO MUCH joy & I received so many messages of gratitude, & confirmations of generous donations to a wide variety of organizations that are always in need of support; now more than ever. It felt good to be out, meeting people (from a safe distance), & doing what I love. I think it made an impact on people’s lives; even just to have something in the calendar to look forward to.
Look at these beautiful faces!
Thank you so much Jamie, we absolutely love our photos. Thank you for capturing our family during this crazy time in our lives.A donation will be made from us as well.
Hi Danielle! Yay! I am so happy that you love the images that we created together 😀 It was so fun to meet your little family and I so appreciate all of the donations that have been made because of this.
Great Idea. Someone in our neighborhood is doiong this too.
Hi Sally 🙂 Yes, people are doing it all over!
I really love these so much! I think it is such an uplifting thing to do during these strange times!
Thanks so much Mary Beth 😀 We are living in crazy times; it felt aligned for me, and brought so much joy.
These are so great. What a unique time in history to capture.
Thanks, Kristin! I think as we recover from this, we will not go back to the way things were. I think this marks a shift, a turning point in our society and that makes this the beginning of a new era.
These are so fun!
Thanks so much Kathryne – it was such a fun project to photograph 😀
I am sure the Edmonton Food bank is thankful
