The struggle is real. Every year, we are all to often overwhelmed by busy-ness and bustle and mile-long “to do” lists. It is so difficult to be truly present during the holiday season. We spend our time doing the things that we feel “have to be done”… we bake cookies, and send cards, and buy gifts for people who already have everything they could possibly need. All of these can be fun traditions that are a joy in themselves, but often they just become tasks to be completed. That’s why this year, the only goal I had was to just be present.
It was so much more challenging than I anticipated. There are so many distractions that surround us all of the time; our attention demanded by screens, our minds in continuos drive. It was very difficult to turn it off. It takes practice and patience.
